Placing the noble motto,” All for the greater glory of God”, the School has been striving for the student community of the marginalized and the downtrodden who are in the last rung of the society. Besides formal education the students here are taught multi-skills and life - coping skills to lead a meaningful life with ideal citizenship.

With the selfless service and the universal mission of the Jesuit Priests, The school was founded as an Informal school in 1854 with the motto, 'By light to life'. In 1904, it was upgraded with sixth standard and in 1908, it attained the status of High School with Government recognition.

In this context, beginning from this year 2017, The Alumni Association of St.Mary's Higher Secondary School, Madurai, is proudly celebrating its PLATINUM JUBILEE Year of its inception in 1942.

It all began in 1942! Ever since, The Alumni Association has brought back many of the former students to their alma mater under the ambit of this association. More over it's always been an overwhelming experience to facilitate a- coming-back for the former students and help them meet their respective batches after decades. Interestingly, what began in 1942 continues to exist even today as we cross this 75th year in this 2017 and march towards future.

In Madurai city, during the Thirumalai Nayakar rule the Educational institution was founded by our great Jesuit Stalwart Robert De Nobili and it spread all over south Tamilnadu.

We are proud to say the St.Mary's Hr.sec.school has got an existence of 116 Years in 2024.

Our Education helps the people to create a new earth and new heaven in the midst of multi-cultural and multi-lingual atmosphere of Madurai city.

ST. MARY'S ALUMNI ASSOCIATION was founded in 1942 by Rev. Fr. X. M. Adaikalam SJ., who was the Headmaster-then, shaped and led under his able guidance. Now in 2017, this Alumni Association is Celebrating its 75th Year PLATINUM JUBILEE. To Link all the alumni of the school who have spread all over the globe with their elevated life of discipline shine in all walks of life make its alma mater proud and march ahead.

This alumni association is the brain-child and sister concern of St.Mary's Higher Secondary School, Madurai, the rich land of cultural Heritage and of literary lineage bearing the mark of the Jesuit Charisma.

Our Alumni Association is actively involved in functioning with the following Visions and mission:

To enhance the institution to the better phase and to lend the helping hand.

To facilitate the alma mater in infrastructure so as to create conducive climate for educational outcomes.

To cater to the needs of the poor students in helping them academically and offer guidance and counselling for the students in need.

To support the Students in shining in their own skills, shape and make them helping others.

To network and collaborate with other units like World Union of Jesuit Alumni Association (WUJAA),

Jesuit Alumni Association of India (JAAI), Jesuit Alumni Association of Tamil Nadu (JAAT).

“Let us blossom with relationships” as the motto, the platinum jubilee of the association is being celebrated this academic year with pomp and gaiety. To commemorate the platinum jubilee, these logo and motto were released which depict the spirit of the association.

To celebrate the platinum jubilee of the alumni association during 2017-18 various constructive programmes were organized. Rev.Fr.V.George s.j, the Director of the alumni association with his motivating spirit, strenuous efforts, ceaseless steps made elaborate arrangements and executed meticulously all the plans with his initiatives. So many alumni enrolled, took part and shared all their memories. Moreover, for the first time in the history of our association Rev.Fr.V.George, s.j collected a lot number of our alumni's addresses, documented and enlisted them through Email and internet.
